The title of this movie refers to the very popular rural sport which is known for its fierce nature and director Vijayprakash has managed to bring together a huge star cast in this movie. Aadhi has shown that given proper characters he can display heroism and this trend started with Eeram, continued in Ayyanar. The story, treatment and presentation is all the same factory made mass masala. There is hardly any difference between last week’s mass masala Thambikottai and Aadu Puli in presentation and content. In both the films, Prabhu plays the honest father, goodness personified to the hero and is responsible for him taking up the fight against the villain.
Bhagyanathan (Prabhu) is a crazy fan of MGR and has named his son Idhayakani (Aadhi). Idhayakani is a nice guy who watches movies, plays basketball and flirts with girls like Anjali (Poorna) and has a happy family consisting of dad, loving mom (Anupama), a sister, grandfather (Ravichandran), grandmother (KR Vijaya).
However Anjali’s dad is a cunning minister and a ruthless politician Thilanayagam (Suresh), who wants to be the next CM by hook or crook. He does not approve of Idhayakani as his future son-in-law and has an army of goondas like Paal Pandi ready to take on his enemies. How our larger than life hero wages a one-man battle against the evil minister and his henchmen forms the rest of the story.
